Ramallah - Saba:
The Commission for Prisoners and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club revealed that the detainees detained in the Zionist camp (Menashe) have been carrying out protest steps for days, and have also embarked on a hunger strike to protest the difficult and harsh detention conditions they face.
The Commission and the club explained in a joint statement, today, Wednesday, that the number of detainees detained in the camp (Menashe) until yesterday was about 100 detainees, noting that the camp is one of several camps created by the occupation, in light of the escalation of arrest campaigns in the West Bank since the start of the war of extermination and is geographically located north of the West Bank near the camp (Salem), and administratively belongs to the occupation army, as is the case for the detainees (Etzion, and Huwara), administratively affiliated with the occupation army, where they were created during The years of the second intifada with the escalation of arrest campaigns, and later the occupation maintained the two camps to hold new detainees, which are among the worst detention centers.
In this context, the Commission and the club pointed out that there are dozens of reports from human rights institutions that have documented over the years, the nature of the harsh, difficult, and degrading detention conditions, which doubled after the war against detainees as a result of the practice of torture crimes in them, specifically the Etzion detention center, which turned after the war, into an arena for torturing and abusing detainees, and there are dozens of testimonies that documented what detainees are subjected to in the aforementioned camp, knowing that since the beginning of the war, the occupation deliberately detains dozens of detainees. In Etzion, for several months deliberately, the detainee's only wish is to transfer him from the camp, which represents a station of humiliation and terror for the detainees.
One of the detainees told the lawyer through the court that the camp does not have warm water, at least, in light of the extreme cold, and lacks a clinic or even a nurse, and some detainees are suffering from health problems while they have been in detention for a while, in addition to suffering from the crime of starvation, and the acute shortage of clothes, since the detainee is a new prison, and all those in it are new detainees in detention, in addition to the abuse they are subjected to.
The Commission and the club pointed out that despite the many demands from the competent institutions to close the camps (Etzion and Huwara), the occupation insists on using it as a station for the abuse and torture of detainees, under the management of the occupation army, and today instead of closing the camps (Etzion, and Huwara), it is working to expand the circle of camps affiliated with the army, by creating new camps such as the camp (Mansha), in addition to other camps created for Gaza detainees, such as the camp (Naftali), and the Commission and the club have already issued a report on the new camp.
The Commission and the club also pointed out that the administration of the camp since its inception, imposed great restrictions and complications on the completion of visits to detainees in it, and since its inception, it has allowed visits only once, stressing that there are legal efforts made through lawyers to improve the conditions of detainees and convey their demands, as well as to allow them to visit.
