The Minister of Health and Environment, Dr. Ali Shaiban, discussed today with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus the cooperation and partnership between the Ministry and the Organization.
The meeting touched on vital health aspects related to the current situation in Yemen and the needs of the health sector, as well as ways to support community services and fixed health facilities, to reach four thousand health facilities to meet the needs of citizens.
In the meeting, the Minister of Health confirmed that the need in Yemen is very large. He pointed to the need to mobilize greater resources from donors to cover health needs and raise the level of health in the country.
He pointed to the importance of strengthening support for primary health care and community activities. He stressed the need to invest in them to build a strong and sustainable health system.
Minister Chaiban pointed to the need to support an integrated supply system for medicines and medical supplies, especially those related to chronic diseases such as dialysis, in light of the blockade imposed on the country. He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Ministry and the Organization, to contribute to improving the level of health services provided.
For his part, the Director-General of the World Health Organization expressed his readiness to provide the necessary support and mobilize resources commensurate with the needs of the country. He pointed to the importance of joint action to address the current health challenges.
