Three Palestinian newborns died of severe cold in Gaza Strip in the past 48 hours in the tents hosting the displaced and their families, amid inability to find heating means, local media said on Thursday.
Infant Sila Mahmoud Al-Fasih died after freezing to death in the tents in Mawasi, Khan Younis, the media added.
"Sila died of cold," her child's mother said. "I was warming her and hugging her, but we did not have extra clothes to warm this girl," and the video showed the child's face turning blue.
In the past 48 hours, Dr. Ahmed Al-Farra, head of the pediatrics and obstetrics department at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, reported the death of Sila and at least two other children, one of whom was three days old and the other one month old, due to low temperatures and the inability to reach a warm shelter.
The coastal area of Al-Mawasi, west Rafah, which the Israeli occupier previously classified as a "humanitarian zone", has been repeatedly subjected to Zionist attacks.
Thousands of Palestinians have fled the area in search of shelter, and have been living for months in tents made of cloth and nylon.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza on Wednesday said the death toll from the Zionist war had risen to 45,361 and the number of wounded to 107,803 since October 7, 2023.
