Washington - Saba:
The Chinese embassy in the United States confirmed that "there is no winner in trade wars" between China and the United States, stressing the need for "Washington to respect international trade rules."

The Russian Sputnik Agency quoted the embassy spokesman, Liu Bingyu, commenting on the issue of the United States imposing additional tariffs on China, as saying: His country "believes that the essence of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is based on mutual benefit and achieving profit for both parties."

Liu added: Washington must "seriously respect the principles of the market economy and international trade rules, and create a suitable environment for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries."

In addition, the Chinese spokesman indicated that Beijing "follows a strict approach in combating drugs," as it "supported Washington in addressing issues related to fentanyl," in a way that contributed to confronting the spread of this substance in the United States.

He expressed China's willingness to continue cooperation with the United States in the field of combating drugs, "on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and respect," saying: "Washington should appreciate Beijing's goodwill and maintain the positive situation, which has been achieved with difficulty in cooperation in this field."

This comes after US President Donald Trump announced his intention to impose a 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports to the United States, starting from February 1, in a decision that "will certainly lead to an escalation of trade tensions between the world's two largest economies," according to the American newspaper "The New York Times."
