Michigan University suspends pro-Palestinian group after Trump's decision
[01/ February/2025]
Washington - Saba:
The University of Michigan has decided to suspend a pro-Palestinian group at the university for two years, days after US President Donald Trump issued an executive order calling for combating "anti-Semitism" on campuses.

According to what the Palestinian Media Center reported today, Saturday, the group "Students United for Freedom and Equality", known as "Safe", was accused of violating the university's standards for recognized student organizations in protests that took place last spring, and organizing a demonstration on campus without permission from its administration.

The university said in a statement: "Protests are welcome at the University of Michigan, as long as these protests do not violate the rights of others, significantly disrupt university events or operations, violate policies, or threaten the safety of the community."

The statement added: "The university has been clear that we will enforce our policies regarding protests and expressive activity, and that we will hold individuals and student organizations accountable for their actions to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all."

For months, American universities have witnessed a wave of demonstrations and sit-ins in rejection of the Zionist war on Gaza, and those protests led to the arrest of about 3,200 people.

Last Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order calling for strict measures to combat what he described as "anti-Semitism" on college campuses, and pledged to prosecute perpetrators and cancel visas for international students "sympathetic to Hamas."
