Ibb – SABA:

The Ibb branch of the General Authority for Water Resources, in coordination with the Public Prosecution and security forces, launched a campaign to seal 65 illegally dug manual wells in Yareem District.

The Director of the Authority’s Branch in Ibb, Mohammed Al-Warafi, stated that these wells were dug randomly and unlawfully, posing serious risks to groundwater resources.

The campaign targeted Wadi Shuhzan in the Aboum and Dakhlet Awaidin areas, located in the Bani Muslim and Bani Munibah sub-districts. The goal was to protect water resources from depletion and contamination, as part of broader efforts to regulate water usage and curb illegal well drilling.

Al-Warafi emphasized that the authority will continue monitoring and taking legal action against violators to ensure the sustainability and protection of water resources. He also praised the support of the Public Prosecution and security forces in Yareem, which contributed to the campaign’s success.

He urged owners of existing wells to legalize their status through the authority’s branch, by the law, stressing that preserving groundwater is a collective responsibility, as it is a national asset and a legacy for future generations.
