Beirut - Saba:
Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun announced on Wednesday renewing his country's firm position on the Palestinian issue in support of the two-state solution, stressing Lebanon's rejection of proposals to displace Palestinians or infringe on their legitimate rights.
Aoun stressed the importance of the Arab Peace Initiative approved by the Arab Summit in 2002, rejecting proposals that lead to any type of displacement of Palestinians from their land or infringement on their legitimate rights enshrined in United Nations resolutions.
This came during the Lebanese President's reception on Wednesday of Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rengal in the presence of Lebanese Foreign and Emigrants Minister Youssef Raji.
President Aoun called on the European Union countries to pressure Israel to complete its withdrawal within the deadline set on February 18, stressing the need for it to adhere to the agreement reached in this context.
In turn, the Portuguese Foreign Minister stressed that his country firmly supports the two-state solution, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, and giving the Palestinian Authority the ability to manage this process, in addition to the necessity of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza as in Lebanon.
