Berlin - Saba:

The leader of the German Free Democratic Party and former Finance Minister, Christian Lindner, declared his retirement from politics after his failure in the last parliamentary elections, which his party participated in.

Christian Lindner said on his account on the "X" platform, according to the Russian Sputnik News Agency: "The federal elections brought defeat to the Free Democratic Party, but I hope that they will also bring a new beginning for Germany. This is what I fought for, and now I am retiring from active politics."

According to data from the Parliamentary Election Commission, the Free Democratic Party did not obtain the minimum 5 percent of votes after counting in 154 out of 299 electoral districts, and therefore does not enter the "Bundestag" (parliament).

Polling stations opened yesterday morning, Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Germany, in elections to which more than 59 million voters were called to cast their votes to choose their representatives in the early elections, which were called after the collapse of the coalition of German Socialist Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in late 2024.

4,506 candidates from 29 parties participated in the elections, including 1,422 female candidates.
