Gaza - Saba:
The Gaza Municipality warned on Monday of a major health and environmental disaster due to the accumulation of thousands of tons of waste in the streets and temporary dumps.
This crisis has arisen because the Israeli enemy has prevented its crews from accessing the main landfill near the eastern border of the city and destroyed most of its equipment during the aggression on the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the municipality said, "The city of Gaza is experiencing a significant health and environmental disaster due to the accumulation of approximately 170,000 tons of waste in the streets and temporary dumps. This is a result of the occupation preventing municipal crews from reaching the landfill east of the city and destroying about 80% of the municipality's equipment."
The municipality added that it has launched a campaign to collect and transport waste from the streets and neighborhoods of the city to temporary dumps.
In mid-February, the municipality initiated an emergency plan to remove the accumulated waste from the streets, neighborhoods, and shelters in Gaza City to mitigate the health and environmental crisis facing the area.
