Colombian president dubs Zelensky idiot after Ukrainian resources handed to US
[26/ February/2025]
Bogota - Saba:

Colombian President Gustavo Petro described Volodymyr Zelensky as an "idiot" against the backdrop of the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on the exploitation of rare earth mineral revenues.

Petro said in a post on the "X" platform today, Wednesday, that Zelensky allowed Western European countries to exploit him politically, which ultimately led to Ukraine handing over to American control.

Petro wrote in his post commenting on the news of the Ukrainian-American deal on rare earths: “Zelensky’s stupidity, and I say this frankly, is that he allowed himself to be manipulated by Western Europeans who do not know where they are heading, towards Hitler or towards nothing? They fight their Slavic brothers and in the end give Ukraine to the United States, stupidity!”

This statement comes after American media reported on Tuesday evening that Ukraine had agreed to new terms for a rare earths deal with the United States after Washington dropped its demand to recover $ 500 billion.

In early February, US President Donald Trump stated that the United States expects Ukraine to provide guarantees for the supply of rare earths in exchange for financial and military assistance provided by Washington.

According to American media, the draft agreement on natural resource investment between the United States and Ukraine, published last Monday, stipulates that the latter will transfer half of its revenues to a special fund, and according to the draft agreement, the United States will be the sole beneficiary of this fund.

The project indicates that "Ukraine's contribution will amount to 50% of the revenues it receives from the sale of natural resources, as well as from infrastructure and other assets of the country, until the total size of the fund's resources reaches $500 billion," and it is assumed that Ukraine's contribution will be twice as large as the American contribution.

The agreement stipulates that the fund will operate as a commercial entity under the management of the US Treasury Department and the US Department of Commerce and the Office of the US Vice President.
