Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today, Tuesday, that his country will impose a 25% tariff on American goods worth 155 billion Canadian dollars (107 billion US dollars).
Trudeau explained in a statement today, Tuesday, that Canada will proceed with this measure, if the administration of US President Donald Trump proceeds with imposing its trade tariffs on Canadian products.
He said that the tariffs will be applied immediately on American goods worth 30 billion Canadian dollars, while the tariffs on the remaining products worth 125 billion Canadian dollars will come into effect within 21 days.
Trudeau confirmed that Canada will maintain these measures until the United States withdraws its trade measures, noting that his country is considering taking additional non-tariff measures in coordination with the provinces and territories, if Washington does not stop imposing the tariffs.
