Kabul - Saba:
Mustafa Rezaei, the CEO of the Afghan Railway Development Union, announced the arrival of the first Emirati transit shipment to Afghanistan via Iranian railways.
According to Iran's "Mehr" news agency on Wednesday evening, Rezaei stated that the first transit shipment from the UAE arrived in the Afghan city of Herat through the "Shamtegh" railway crossing in the northeastern Iranian province of Khorasan Razavi.
Rezaei confirmed that this shipment, which included 40 containers of sugar from the UAE and 6 wagons of cement from Iran, weighs 1,200 tons. The shipment was loaded in Bandar Abbas (Hormozgan province, southern Iran) before entering Afghanistan via the railway network at the Shamtegh border crossing in northeastern Iran.
The rail line connecting Iran and Afghanistan was inaugurated in December 2020, with the launch of the Khorasan (Iran) – Herat (Afghanistan) rail line. This project aims to strengthen economic, social, and cultural relations, enhance exports, and increase Iran’s share in the international transit network.
The rail line will also improve regional and international exchanges across this part of Asia, contributing to the development of Iranian-Afghan relations and complementing the rail connections between China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Iran.
