Spaniard Alcaraz qualifies for third round, Serbian Djokovic bids farewell to Indian Wells Tennis Championship

Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, ranked third in the world, advanced to the third round of the Indian Wells American Tennis Championship in the 1000-point category after defeating Frenchman Quentin Halys in two sets to none (6/4 and 6/2).

Alcaraz will face Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the next round, ranked 27th in the world, who defeated Australian Adam Walton in two sets to none (6/3 and 6/2).

In contrast, Serbian Novak Djokovic, ranked seventh in the world, bid farewell to the tournament after losing to Dutchman Boteach van de Zandschulp (2/6, 6/3, 1/6).

For his part, British Jack Draper, ranked 14th in the world, defeated rising Brazilian Joao Fonseca in two straight sets (6/4, 6/0).

Draper will meet in the next round American Jenson Brooksby, who defeated Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, ranked 18th in the world, in two sets to none (6/4, 6/2).

In the rest of the matches in the same round, Polish Hubert Hurkacz defeated Frenchman Hugo Gaston in two consecutive sets (7/5, 6/3), and American Brandon Nakashima defeated Australian Rinke Hijikata in two sets as well (7/5, 6/1).

For his part, American Ben Shelton defeated Argentine Mariano Navone in two straight sets (6/3, 6/2), Australian Alex de Minaur defeated Belgian David Goffin in two sets to none (6/2, 6/2), and Frenchman Gael Monfils defeated American Sebastian Korda in two clean sets (7/6, 7/6).
