Russian Medvedev advances to Indian Wells Quarterfinals

Russian Daniil Medvedev, ranked sixth in the world, reached the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells ATP 1000 tournament after defeating American Tommy Paul, ranked 11th in the round of 16, in straight sets (6-4, 6-0).

Medvedev will next face Frenchman Arthur Fiss, ranked 21st in the world, who defeated American Marcus Giron in straight sets (6-2, 2-6, 6-2).

Denmark Holger Rune, ranked 13th in the world, also booked his place in the quarterfinals with a straight sets victory over Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked ninth in the world, 6-4, 6-4.

Ron will next face Dutchman Tallon Khrexpoor, who continued his impressive run and advanced to the quarterfinals with a straight sets victory over Japanese qualifier Yusuke Watanuki (7-6, 6-1).

Kherxpoor had previously eliminated world No. 2 Alexander Zverev (7-6, 6-1).

In the women's competition, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, ranked 23rd in the world, pulled off a surprise by eliminating world No. 4 Jessica Pegula (5-7, 6-1, 6-2).

Svitolina will face world No. 11 Mira Andreeva (6-1, 6-2) in the quarterfinals. Andreeva defeated world No. 7 Elena Rybakina (6-1, 6-2).

China's Qinwen Jing, ranked ninth in the world, also advanced after defeating Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk, ranked twenty-fourth in the world, in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). She will now face Poland's Iga Swiatek, ranked second in the world, in the quarterfinals. Swiatek had earlier defeated Czech Karolina Muchová, ranked fifteenth in the world, in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
