Caracas - SABA:
The Venezuelan government has rejected the immigration policies of former U.S. President Donald Trump, following his activation of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, which allows for the deportation of migrants.
In a statement published on the official account of Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto on Sunday, Venezuela strongly condemned the U.S. administration’s classification of Venezuelan migration as criminal, calling it shameful and unjust.
The statement emphasized that the revival of this old law is not only a relic of the past but also contradicts existing U.S. laws, international human rights frameworks, the UN Charter, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Venezuela further described the application of this law as a crime against humanity.
Trump had signed a memorandum activating the Alien Enemies Act to deport members of the Venezuelan gang "Tren de Aragua" from the United States.
