Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro announced the commencement of gold extraction operations in the Essequibo region of Guayana to boost national and international reserves.
Maduro said during the program "With Maduro+" that a ton of gold bullion had been delivered to the Venezuelan Central Bank, thanks to the efforts of the local mining sector.
He added that the government is committed to environmental standards during gold extraction and called on investors to operate sustainably. He also noted that the Essequibo region of Guayana contains the largest gold reserves in the world.
