CPJ welcomes mandate renewal of UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine by Human Rights Council
[08/ April/2025]
Geneva - Saba
The Amman-based Committee to Protect and Freedom of Journalists (CPFJ) welcomed the Human Rights Council's renewal of the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Committee stressed that "the renewal of confidence in the UN rapporteur expresses the justice of the Palestinian cause and the bias of peoples towards the Palestinian right, and condemns the war of extermination waged by the "Israeli" occupation against the Palestinian people."

The Committee pointed out that the overwhelming vote to renew Albanese's mandate "reflects confidence in her position and the prominent role she played in exposing Israeli crimes and violations against the Palestinian people, and her support for continuing to raise the human rights voice against the double standards of human rights, and the importance of prosecuting the "Israeli" occupation authorities for their crimes so that their leaders do not go unpunished."

On April 5, the UN Human Rights Council voted to keep Francesca Albanese in her position as the UN rapporteur for the Palestinian territories until 2028.

A special session of the UNHRC on Friday confirmed that Albanese can remain in her position until 2028, despite efforts by US and European lawmakers and groups supporting the Zionist enemy state to remove her.
