Trump Announces New Tariffs on Electronic chips
[14/ April/2025]
Washington - Saba:
US President Donald Trump announced that he will announce new tariffs on Electronic chips imports into the United States next week.

Trump told White House reporters, commenting on the upcoming tariffs on semiconductor imports, "I'll be announcing that next week."

Earlier, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the United States had temporarily exempted imports of electronic devices and semiconductors from tariffs, as the US administration intends to impose separate sectoral tariffs on them in the coming months.

On April 2, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing "reciprocal" tariffs on imports from other countries.

The base interest rate was set at 10%, and for 57 countries, increased rates were implemented on April 9. These rates are calculated based on the US trade deficit with a given country, so that there is a balance rather than a deficit.

However, on April 9, US President Donald Trump agreed to suspend tariffs on 75 countries for 90 days and reduce them to a minimum of 10%.

Following a series of steps in the trade war, the additional US "reciprocal" tariff on Chinese goods reached 125%, and China's tariff on US goods also reached 125%.

Furthermore, the US imposed another 20% tariff on China, imposed due to accusations of insufficient enforcement of synthetic drugs.
