According to a statement by the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake, which has a depth of 9.0 kilometers, was initially located at 33.03 degrees north latitude and 116.76 degrees west longitude.
Residents north of Los Angeles, the state's largest city, felt the quake.
There were no reports of injuries or damage from the quake.
