Louisiana - Saba:
Activists and human rights defenders from across the United States gathered in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in rural Jena, Louisiana, where Palestinian student and activist Mahmoud Khalil is being "illegally" detained.
According to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), the demonstrators emphasized that they came to deliver a clear message: "The struggle for the freedom of activist Khalil is an extension of the broader struggle for justice and freedom of expression, especially in light of the ongoing repression against supporters of the Palestinian cause."
Despite the immigration judge's decision to keep Khalil in detention, his legal team continues to appeal the decision in court, amid growing public solidarity.
In this context, hundreds of activists gathered last night outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters in Washington, D.C., to stand with students and reject the deportation of those who support Palestinian rights at American universities.
