Moscow - Saba:
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described Volodymyr Zelensky's intention to invite EU leaders to Kyiv on May 9 as an "absurd farce" on Wednesday.
Sputnik quoted Zakharova as saying, "This (Volodymyr Zelensky's intention to invite EU leaders to Kyiv on May 9) can be described by an expression we have been using since around 2013... This expression was first used then, and it has been used systematically. This expression is an absurd farce."
Zakharova added, "For more than ten years, these two words have characterized most of the events, actions, and statements we hear and see from the so-called collective West."
Earlier, Politico reported, citing Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sipia, that Ukrainian authorities had invited European leaders and high-ranking officials to Kyiv on May 9 to counterbalance the events taking place in the Russian Federation and divert attention from Moscow, where a military parade will be held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, in which the Soviet Army defeated Nazism.
In 2023, in an attempt to distort history and facts, Zelensky signed a law moving the celebration of Victory Day in World War II from May 9 to May 8, renaming it the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism. May 9 subsequently became Europe Day in Ukraine.
For years, the West has been systematically attempting to distort and distort history, downplaying the role played by the Soviet Union in the victory over Nazism and attributing this victory to itself.
This is despite the fact that history has recorded this victory in the name of the Soviet Union due to its pivotal role in defeating Nazism and resolving the battles. The Red Army reached Berlin and officially declared the elimination of Nazism, ending this dark era in world history.
