Euro-Mediterranean HR monitor: Famine imminent in Gaza Strip, urgent action required
[17/ April/2025]
Geneva - Saba:

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor revealed on Thursday that famine is imminent in the Gaza Strip after 45 days of comprehensive blockade, and urgent action is required to prevent its spread.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said in a statement: "We have observed dangerous indicators warning of the population entering a state of severe food insecurity that is about to tip into famine due to the severe shortage of food necessary for survival."

The monitor explained that in recent weeks, the occupation has worked to disrupt and destroy what remains of the agricultural and food infrastructure.

The monitor added: "Some residents have been forced to sell part of their basic assets to secure food, indicating the beginning of a collapse of their coping mechanisms."

It continued: "Bread and fresh and frozen meat are completely absent from the Gaza Strip's markets, and vegetables are available only in small quantities and at exorbitant prices that most residents cannot afford."

The observatory explained that estimates indicate daily deaths due to food shortages and weakened immunity, given the ongoing blockade and the denial of aid entry.
