Russian Karen Khachanov advanced to the semifinals of the Barcelona Open on Friday, defeating Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) in the quarterfinals.
Khachanov achieved his second consecutive victory over his opponent in four meetings, setting up a meeting in the next round with Denmark's Holger Rune, who dethroned Norway's Casper Ruud in straight sets, also defeating him 6-4, 6-2.
Tsitsipas, seeded third in the tournament, will face France's Arthur Weiss for a place in the semifinals. The winner will face either Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, seeded first in the tournament and world number two, or Australia's Alex de Minaur.
