Study: Children live better with more animal protein
[19/ April/2025]
Sydney - Saba:
Young children have better survival rates when animal protein makes up a larger part of their diet, thanks to essential amino acids and easily absorbed nutrients such as iron and zinc, according to a recent study.

Those over the age of 60 benefit most from plant proteins, with higher life expectancy in countries where plant proteins are more abundant in the food supply, according to the study.

The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Sydney, and its results revealed that young children live better with more animal protein in their diet, while adults over the age of 60 tend to live longer when eating more plant proteins.

Research suggests that dietary guidelines should take age-specific recommendations into account, especially as countries shift to more sustainable diets.

The study data covered food supply and mortality rates from 1961 to 2018.

These findings refute the idea that plant-based diets are globally better. For young children, animal protein showed clear benefits.

Children had better survival rates in countries where meat, dairy and other animal products made up a larger portion of the protein supply
