Washington - Saba:

Xie Feng, the Chinese ambassador to the United States, said that his country's authorities will respond with decisive countermeasures if other countries impose tariffs and trade wars.

In an interview published on the website of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Washington, the Chinese ambassador added: "China firmly opposes any form of tariffs or trade wars. This is upheld not only to protect China's national interests and dignity, but also to protect the international trade and economic order and international fairness and justice."

The diplomat pointed out that if other countries impose "tariffs and trade wars" on China, Beijing will respond and take "decisive countermeasures."

Xie Feng said, "Amidst global instability and uncertainty, China remains the most promising and huge market in the world, the main driving force of global economic growth, and the best investment destination for foreign investors."

The Chinese ambassador emphasized that his country's development remains "a common opportunity for the entire world."

On April 2, Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on imports from 185 countries and territories. The unified 10% tariffs took effect on April 5, while individual tariffs began on April 9. The tariffs on Vietnam reached 46%, Cambodia 49%, and Malaysia 24%. On April 9, Trump announced a 90-day suspension of additional tariffs imposed on certain countries and territories based on the principle of reciprocity.

Following a series of steps in the trade war, the additional "reciprocal" US tariffs on Chinese goods reached 125%, and China's retaliatory tariffs on US goods also reached 125%. Furthermore, the United States imposed another 20% tariff on China, imposed due to accusations of insufficient enforcement of synthetic drugs.
