Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng has confirmed that his country's authorities will respond with decisive countermeasures if other countries impose tariffs and trade wars.
In an interview published by the Chinese diplomatic mission in Washington on its website on Sunday, the ambassador said, "China firmly opposes any form of tariffs or trade wars.
This is upheld not only to protect China's national interests and dignity, but also to protect the international trade and economic order and international fairness and justice."
The diplomat indicated that if other countries impose "tariffs and trade wars" on China, Beijing will respond and take "decisive countermeasures."
Xie Feng said, "Amidst global instability and uncertainty, China remains the world's most promising and huge market, the main driving force for global economic growth, and the best investment destination for foreign investors."
