"Wall Street Journal": Trump Suspends Tariff Imposition After Ministerial Pressure

The "Wall Street Journal" reported that U.S. President Donald Trump suspended the decision to impose new tariffs after consultations with Treasury Secretary Scott Bisset and Commerce Secretary Howard Loretic.

The newspaper stated today, Sunday, that this sudden shift in Trump’s stance on imposing tariffs on imports came after the two ministers successfully convinced the president of the need to suspend some tariffs and announce it immediately in order to calm financial markets.

According to the report, Bisset and Loretic took advantage of the absence of Trump's International Trade Advisor, Peter Navarro, who supported the idea of imposing tariffs on other countries, as he was in another wing of the White House during the meeting. This allowed the two ministers to present their proposals and change the course of the decision.
