Al-Hodeida – SABA:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources launched today the second phase of producing and marketing 2,500 tons of locally frozen broiler chicken as an alternative to imported frozen chicken.
During the launch, Deputy Director of Agricultural Marketing and Trade, Ali Al-Harb, stated that this initiative aligns with the ministry’s strategy to reduce import costs, encourage local production, and support small poultry farmers in returning to production. This will be achieved by regulating sales based on weight and fostering competition to supply chicken with high standards and reasonable prices that satisfy both producers and consumers.
Engineer Hilal Al-Jashari, Head of the Poultry Unit, emphasized the importance of contract farming in producing and marketing frozen broiler chicken to replace imports. He explained that the initiative operates under an organized mechanism involving multi-purpose cooperative associations comprising poultry breeders, producers, importers, production companies, and slaughterhouses.
He highlighted that the initiative will be implemented in phases to eventually replace imported chicken with local products. This effort plays a significant role in managing and organizing the poultry sector, promoting local production, and expanding investment in this vital industry, which is a major source of white meat and eggs.
