On Thursday, April 24, 2025, hundreds of European Union staff and activists demonstrated in Brussels, the Belgian capital, in support of Palestine and in protest against what they described as "genocide" in the Gaza Strip.
The demonstration was held in solidarity with a group of European activists who have been on an open-ended hunger strike for weeks, under the slogan "Hungry for Justice in Palestine." The protest is an attempt to pressure European decision-makers to take firmer stances against the occupation.
During the weekly event, doctors and activists who recently returned from Gaza gave moving testimonies about the extent of the destruction, the shortages of food and medicine, and the collapse of the health system due to the blockade that has lasted for more than 17 years.
Activist and hunger striker Dr. André Pascal said that this campaign is "not merely symbolic, but a humanitarian cry," accusing European countries of "complicity" due to their silence or the fact that their interests are tied to Israel. Participants held up signs demanding an immediate ceasefire, accountability for Israeli officials, sanctions on Israel, the suspension of agreements with it, and the provision of urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza.
