Kyiv Mayor: Ukraine may have to cede land for peace
[25/ April/2025]
Kyiv - Saba:
Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, stated that his country might have to cede parts of its territory as part of a peace agreement with Russia.

In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) aired on Friday, Klitschko said, "One scenario could involve giving up parts of our land... It’s not fair, but it might be a temporary solution to achieve peace."

He added, "The decision to cede territory to Russia is an extremely difficult political choice, but it could be a painful solution to bring about peace."

The Kyiv mayor expressed deep gratitude for the efforts made by the United States to end the war in Ukraine, noting that Washington has consistently supported his country since the beginning of the conflict and that without this support, Ukraine would not have been able to hold out.

Klitschko’s remarks come ahead of a meeting later today between U.S. Special Envoy Steve Wittkopf and Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

Nearly 100 days after returning to power, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he is pressuring both Kyiv and Moscow to end the war.
