Beirut - Saba:
Member of the Al-Wafa' for the Resistance Bloc (the parliamentary bloc of Hezbollah), MP Ali Fayyad, affirmed that "Lebanon is facing systematic targeting aimed at preventing it from acquiring the ability to defend itself, its people, and its land."
This came during a speech he delivered at a commemorative ceremony held by Hezbollah in the town of Meifdoun, honoring the martyr Muhammad Abdul Nabi Rihani from the southern town of Al-Taybeh. The event was attended by figures, activists, families of martyrs, and a crowd of locals.
Fayyad pointed out that "some within [Lebanon] insist on playing the role of a Trojan horse," by paving the way for external political and military pressures on Lebanon—through continuously targeting the Resistance and holding it responsible for the current situation—and by rejecting the dialogue path adopted by the government as a framework for internal understanding and addressing core issues related to the country’s stability.
He noted that this political faction "practices the highest levels of subservience to external forces," ignoring repeated Zionist aggressions against civilians and border villages, as well as the enemy’s non-compliance with UN Resolution 1701. He accused them of promoting a justificatory narrative that serves the enemy, pushing for confrontation between the army , the Resistance, exacerbating internal tensions, and deepening divisions—all with the aim of weakening both the government and the Resistance simultaneously.
Fayyad added that "Lebanon is the target," clarifying that the ultimate goal of what is happening is "to confiscate Lebanon’s sovereign decision-making independence and subject the country to external guardianship in all major issues—from governance to reforms, appointments, and administration."
He emphasized that "targeting the Resistance is part of targeting sovereignty, independence, and national dignity," asserting that "both the sovereign, independent state and the Resistance are in the crosshairs." This underscores the necessity of maintaining understanding between the state and the Resistance, as they are "in the same boat."
The statement by MP Ali Fayyad comes amid escalating tensions on the ground along Lebanon’s southern border with occupied Palestine, as southern villages face continuous bombardment by the Israeli enemy, resulting in significant human and material losses.
These developments coincide with ongoing internal divisions over the role of the resistance and the future of its relationship with state institutions, amid increasing international pressure to push Lebanon toward agreements that may compromise its national principles.
