French Lawyers File Urgent Legal Motion to Block Military Shipment Headed to Israel
[07/ July/2025]

Paris – SABA:

A group of French lawyers and legal professionals have filed an urgent motion with the Administrative Court of Montreuil to block the transfer of a military shipment passing through Charles de Gaulle Airport en route to Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense company. The shipment reportedly originates from the Swedish firm Saab Bofors Dynamics AB (Sopbor Stal Svenska AB).

According to a statement released Monday by the organization “Jurists for Respect of International Law” on its official X (formerly Twitter) account—cited by Quds Press—Elbit Systems, which operates in direct coordination with the Israeli military, plays a central role in the ongoing war effort, particularly the assault on Gaza.

The organization warned that permitting the unchecked transfer of armored military vehicles to Elbit Systems could amount to facilitating the commission of international crimes, already condemned by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC)—all from French soil.

The ICC had issued arrest warrants on November 21, 2024, for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing reasonable grounds to believe they committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

The legal action is grounded in international humanitarian law, particularly the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the transfer of weapons or military equipment to parties likely to use them in the commission of war crimes.

This French legal initiative is further supported by the ICJ ruling in January 2024, which found a “plausible risk of genocide” in Gaza and obligated signatory states to take steps to prevent participation or complicity in such violations.

Since October 7, 2023, and with U.S. and European support, the Israeli military has waged a campaign of genocide in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 57,523 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, and injuries to 136,617 others, according to preliminary data. Thousands remain buried under rubble or stranded in inaccessible areas, as rescue teams face severe obstacles in reaching them.
