Brussels - Saba:

Activists in Belgium began a 5-day hunger strike on Monday, demanding that their country sever ties with Israel.

According to VRT, Belgium's national public broadcaster, a group of activists in the city of Ghent are on a hunger strike for Palestine.

One of the strike organizers, Father Lud Vandeput of the Saint Michael Movement, emphasized the need not to remain silent while Israel continues to commit genocide in Gaza.

Vandeput emphasized that taking action against Israel's continued genocide in Gaza is a "moral duty."

The activists, who are demanding that the Belgian government sever military, diplomatic, and economic ties with Israel, will only drink sweetened water, coffee, or tea for five days.

The activists hope this strike will inspire similar protests in other European cities.

It is worth noting that another hunger strike began on June 16 and lasted for five days in the Beguinage Church in central Brussels, the Belgian capital, "for justice for Palestine."

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a war of genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
