Erdoğan: Global silence on Gaza mirrors inaction over Srebrenica massacre
[11/ July/2025]
Ankara – Saba:

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan criticized the international community on Friday for what he described as its continued silence over atrocities in Gaza, drawing parallels with the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.

In a video message broadcast during a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica tragedy, Erdoğan said that just as the world remained passive during the massacre of over 8,000 Bosnians, it now stands by as civilians in Palestine face destruction at the hands of Israeli military operations.

Erdoğan stated that the military campaign in Gaza—ongoing for more than 21 months—is evidence that global powers have failed to learn the lessons of Srebrenica, warning that legal and historical accountability for the loss of tens of thousands of Palestinian lives will come.

The Srebrenica massacre, considered Europe's worst atrocity since World War II, saw Bosnian civilians seeking protection from Dutch UN peacekeepers on July 11, 1995, only to be handed over to Serbian forces led by Ratko Mladić. More than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed.

The Bosnian War, which lasted from 1992 to 1995, resulted in the deaths of more than 300,000 people. Many victims were buried in mass graves, and post-war efforts led to the exhumation and identification of thousands of bodies.

According to figures cited in the message, more than 57,000 Palestinians have killed since October 7, 2023, in the Gaza aggression.

Erdoğan condemned the ongoing destruction, displacement, and humanitarian crisis, which he said continue despite international appeals and legal rulings.
