Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova mocked the US State Department staff cuts.
Zakharova wrote on her Telegram account on Sunday: "1,300 people have been dismissed from the US State Department as part of the state spending reform. They insist that this constitutes a violation of human rights."
She continued: "It is ridiculous that American diplomats in particular have been trying to convince the world for all these years that human rights are only properly observed in the United States, and that everyone else should look to them as an example."
The Associated Press reported that the US State Department intends to dismiss more than 1,300 diplomats under the Trump administration's plan to restructure the State Department.
