Meteorology: Thunderstorms, Strong to Very Strong Winds Expected in Next 24 Hours

Sana’a - Saba:

The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning has forecasted scattered and varying intensity thunderstorms across several governorates, along with active to very strong winds causing sea disturbance along the eastern coasts, around the Socotra Archipelago, and the Gulf of Aden during the next 24 hours.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the center, varying intensity thunderstorms are likely over parts of the governorates of Ibb, Dhamar, Raymah, Dhale’a, Bayda, the highlands of Lahj, Abyan, and Shabwah.

Scattered showers, possibly accompanied by thunder at times, are also expected over parts of the governorates of Taiz, Sana’a, Mahwit, Hajjah, Amran, and Sa’ada.

Active to very strong winds are likely around the Socotra Archipelago, the Gulf of Aden, and the eastern coasts.

Rainfall amounts recorded during the past 24 hours at meteorological stations were: Ba'dan–Ibb: 6.2 mm, and Al-Huban–Taiz: 0.4 mm.

The center warned citizens to avoid being in or crossing flood channels and earthen bridges during and after rainfall and flooding, and advised seeking shelter from thunderstorms.

It also warned seafarers, fishermen, and ship captains of sea disturbance and high waves around the Socotra Archipelago, the Gulf of Aden, and the southern and eastern coasts.
