Death Toll Rises to 37 in Syria’s Sweida City
[14/ July/2025]

Damascus - Saba:

The death toll from ongoing clashes and mutual shelling between local armed groups and tribal gunmen in the city of Sweida, southern Syria, rose to 37 on Monday.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, intense clashes in several villages resulted in the death of 37 people from both sides as of Monday morning — including 27 Druze (two of them children) and 10 Bedouins — with around 50 to 90 others injured.

The violent confrontations erupted on Sunday following a robbery incident on the Damascus-Sweida highway.

Fighting was concentrated in the villages of Al-Tayra, Labeen, and Jareen, as well as in the Maqous neighborhood east of Sweida city, with various types of weapons used.

The clashes led to the closure of the Damascus-Sweida international highway and caused widespread power outages across the province.

Fires were reported in homes in the village of Al-Tayra, and clashes are still ongoing in some areas. Authorities have postponed all examinations in the province until further notice due to the deteriorating security situation.
