Bethlehem - Saba:
Following her recent visit to prisoner Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, lawyer Ghaid Ghanem Qassem revealed a serious deterioration in his health and the harsh conditions of his detention inside Israeli prisons.
According to the Palestinian Ma'an News Agency, the lawyer explained that Abu Safia has lost approximately 40 kilograms (88 pounds). He previously weighed 100 kilograms, but now weighs no more than 60 kilograms.
She added that the prisoner was severely beaten for half an hour, targeting his rib cage, face, head, and neck, which exacerbated his health condition. The occupation authorities refused to provide him with treatment or refer him to a specialist doctor.
The lawyer confirmed that Abu Safia suffers from an irregular heartbeat, amid deliberate medical neglect. She also noted that he is still wearing winter clothes despite the hot weather and poor detention conditions, which include torture, starvation, and solitary confinement.
Dr. Abu Safia is being held in an underground cell, deprived of sunlight, further deteriorating his physical and psychological condition.
