The Director General of the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip, Ismail Al-Thawabta, confirmed on Friday that the Strip has entered the third phase of hunger, classified as a catastrophe according to international standards.
In a statement to the Palestinian Safa News Agency, Al-Thawabta said that the extremely limited entry of aid into the Gaza Strip falls far short of meeting even the minimum daily humanitarian needs.
He stressed that this level of aid cannot bring any improvement whatsoever to the living or nutritional conditions of the besieged population. He noted that residents are suffering from widespread malnutrition-related illnesses and rising death rates due to hunger, especially among children and infants.
He pointed out that these facts have been confirmed by independent UN organizations, completely discrediting the Israeli narrative.
Al-Thawabta added that the Gaza Strip requires no less than 600 trucks of aid and fuel per day to meet the bare minimum of its needs — contrary to Israeli claims of easing the blockade following the entry of a small number of aid trucks and airdropping of what he described as propaganda shipments.
He revealed that only around 1% of the necessary aid actually entered Gaza in recent weeks, amid a total closure of major border crossings and widespread destruction of humanitarian infrastructure.
He called on the international community to take immediate action to enforce the comprehensive, safe, and sustainable entry of aid through land crossings, and to reject Israel’s misleading narrative.
The Government Media Office also held Israel and all countries complicit in the crimes of genocide and starvation fully responsible for this humanitarian catastrophe, calling for an independent international investigation into the crimes committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
