Algeria - Saba:

The Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), the largest Islamist party in Algeria, has called for a freeze on celebratory events in light of the current situation in the Gaza Strip, in line with the popular and official stance in support of Palestine.

This came in a letter submitted by the movement's parliamentary group to Minister of Culture and Arts Zouhair Bellou, and published on the group's official Facebook page on Friday, according to the Palestinian SAFA News Agency.

The text of the letter read: "We ask you to take urgent action and issue directives to freeze celebratory events in light of the humanitarian situation in Palestine."

The letter, signed by the head of the parliamentary group, Al-Eid Boukraf, called for "postponing these activities, in line with the country's official and popular position."

The movement pointed to "the catastrophic humanitarian context experienced by the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, as a result of the brutal Zionist attacks that have claimed thousands of lives and left behind destruction, grief, and deprivation in painful and horrific scenes, amidst a suspicious and scandalous international silence."

It emphasized that "this difficult circumstance requires the highest levels of popular and official solidarity, especially from Algeria, which has historically been known for its steadfast and supportive positions on Palestinian rights.'

Some Algerian provinces, particularly coastal ones, typically organize concerts during the summer season.

Since the beginning of the genocide on October 7, 2023, the Zionist enemy forces have simultaneously committed a crime of starvation against the Palestinians of Gaza. They intensified their measures on March 2, closing all crossings to humanitarian, relief, and medical aid, causing famine to spread and reaching "catastrophic" levels.
