Italian Lawmakers Wear Palestinian Flag Colors in Parliament to Protest Gaza Genocide

Rome – SABA:

Members of Italy’s “Five Star Movement” (M5S) wore clothing in the colors of the Palestinian flag during a parliamentary session on Thursday, in a symbolic protest against Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza and the mass atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people.

During the session, the MPs called on the Italian government and the international community to act immediately to end the war in Gaza, stressing that the situation constitutes a crime against humanity that must not be ignored, according to the Palestinian Shehab News Agency.

The lawmakers declared that “remaining silent in the face of massacres and gross violations against Palestinian civilians amounts to complicity,” urging the immediate enforcement of international law, diplomatic pressure for a ceasefire, and protection for civilians—particularly women and children.

The symbolic move received broad coverage in Italian and European media, with commentators viewing it as a sign of mounting public and political outrage across Europe over what many have labeled as Israel’s “brutal war” on Gaza—a campaign that has killed tens of thousands and plunged the population into an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.

The gesture is part of a growing wave of solidarity initiatives by leftist parties and civil society groups across Italy and other EU countries, rejecting the ongoing genocide and blockade, and calling for accountability for the crimes committed against Palestinians.

Backed by the U.S. and Europe, the Israeli military has continued its genocidal campaign in Gaza since October 7, 2023, killing 61,258 Palestinian civilians—most of them women and children—and injuring 152,045 others, according to the latest but incomplete toll. Thousands more remain trapped under rubble or on the streets, unreachable by emergency and rescue teams.
