MOSCOW April 25. 2024 (Saba) - The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that Moscow will soon present in the Security Council a draft resolution on preventing the deployment of weapons of mass destruction in space, taking into account the results of discussions on a US-Japanese draft resolution that Russia blocked from passing in the Security Council on Wednesday's night and the ideas accepted by the majority states of the United Nations members.
The ministry said in a statement “In the near future, we will submit our own draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council, which takes into account the results of the discussions on the US-Japanese document, and the current developments accepted by a large majority of UN member states, and we count on the adoption of the resolution.
” Our draft resolution in the Security Council.”
Russia used its veto power on Wednesday to prevent the passage of a draft resolution presented by the United States and Japan, calling for not developing nuclear weapons or other types of weapons of mass destruction for deployment in space, after the Security Council failed to adopt an amendment proposed by Russia and China to the draft resolution.
13 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the US-Japanese draft resolution, while Russia voted against it, and China abstained from voting.
