SNACC stresses need to address imbalances in tax collection

SNACC stresses need to address imbalances in tax collection
[Wed, 08 Jul 2020 13:14:37 +0300]

SANAA, July 8 (Saba) -  The Supreme National Anti-Corruption Commission (SNACC) has stressed the need to address all imbalances and pursue corruption cases related to the collection of Qat and other taxes in all provinces and the importance of setting criteria to determine the tax imposed on Qat.

This came during a regular meeting of the SNACC headed by the chairman Dr. Mohammed al-Ghashm with the participation of the Chairman of the Tax Authority Ahmed al-Shawtari.

The two officials discussed repeated attacks on tax collectors at various collection checkpoints and ways to enhance the tax collection.

The SNACC affirmed its readiness to support the Authority’s efforts to ensure the preservation of public funds and tax revenues.

The SNACC chairman stressed the importance of preserving state revenue and public funds that require transparent cooperation with the Tax Authority as well as cooperating to follow up on manifestations of corruption and recovering the looted funds, including tax evasion for the state treasury.

He said that a collector must be a public employee because the tax funds are from the sovereign funds of the State and that the collection takes place under the laws in force, whether the revenues obtained from Qat taxes or other taxes.

Dr. Al-Ghashm stressed the importance of enhancing tax revenues, especially in light of these difficult economic conditions that the country is going through due to the aggression and its catastrophic repercussions on the national economy.

For his part, the Chairman of the Tax Authority al-Shawtari reviewed the measures taken by the Authority towards the repeated attacks on tax collectors so as to improve tax revenues in general and Qat tax revenues in particular.

Al-Shawtari pointed to the problems faced by the Tax Authority in this context, especially tax revenue today represents the basis of the state budget.
