SANA'A, Dec. 30 (Saba) - Water and Environment Minister Abdul Raqib al-Shurmani stressed on Tuesday the collective responsibility to preserve the groundwater as a national treasure for all generations.
At an extended meeting of the water basin main committee, al-Shurmani talked about the importance of activating the integrated management of water resources and promoting rationalization programs of water consumption.
Yemen is ranked globally among the poorest countries in terms of water resources as a result of the unjust depletion of water stocks and the widespread of indiscriminate drilling of wells, he said.
Al-Shurmani stressed that the ministry's plan for 2021 includes several priorities, most notably is issuing and amending several water-related legislations, which will enhance measures to preserve water wealth and strengthen controlling measures against those who breach water laws.
