SANA'A, May. 21 (Saba) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation was directed on Friday to prevent the import of external apples into Yemen.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Dr. Radhwan Al-Rubaie told SABA that the decision to ban the import of external apples is a protection of the local product, it followed several measures taken by the ministry
over the past year to phase out the market's needs.
The decision came after Yemen had reached self-sufficiency from apples, as the Ministry had programs to store and cool local quantities to cover the market's needs throughout the year.
Dr. Al-Rubaie highlighted the importance of this trend to support and protect local apple production.
He called on apple importers to commit themselves to dissemination and to cooperate with the Ministry in the implementation of the strategy for the protection of local products.
The Rubaie called on the security agencies and relevant stakeholders to cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture to combat the smuggling of external apples, thereby contributing to the protection of the local product. He
stressed that the Ministry will not relent in taking strict measures
against smugglers of external apples.
The Ministry of Agriculture sought to protect and encourage local agricultural products and crops, to cover the market's needs, thereby contributing to the support of the national economy.
