TEHRAN January 22. 2023 (Saba) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian threatened on Sunday to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) "if the European Union does not correct its position" on Tehran, commenting on the European Parliament's decision to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the terrorism list.
In a press statement carried by the Iranian news agency (IRNA), Abdollahian said "If the Europeans do not move rationally and do not correct their positions, any possible response from Iran is possible," pointing to the possibility of Tehran's withdrawal from NPT.
He called the European Parliament's decision "emotional and irrational," and said "The Iranian parliament's draft resolution to respond to the European Parliament is a countermeasure and it will be binding on the government to consider European forces a terrorist army."
Asked about the possibility of Iran withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty or expelling IAEA inspectors, Iran's foreign minister said: "Any possibility is conceivable."
