SANA'A December 03. 2023 (Saba)-The General Authority of Antiquities and Museums received from the Security Department of Hazm Al-Jawf Directorate today,Sunday, 121 archaeological stone pieces of various sizes, which were seized in the yard of an antiquities smuggler in Al-Jawf province.
The head of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums, Abbad Al-Hayal, explained to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the archaeological stone pieces were of different sizes and some of them were incomplete, including “tombstones and parts of them, as well as small stone altars, and cushion inscriptions, in addition to two saddles that were seized in the courtyard of one of the smugglers.” Antiquities in the province that were being prepared to be smuggled out of the country.”
Al-Hayal pointed out that the Director of Antiquities Office in Al-Jawf, Muhammad Mubarak, his deputy, Nashwan Haider, and Walid Al-Salmi from the Authority’s Museums Department received the artifacts from the Director of Al-Hazm Police Security, Ali Ahmed Hamran, and they delivered them to the General Authority for Antiquities, from there to the National Museum in Sana’a and deposited them in the museum’s stores.
The head of the Antiquities Authority appreciated the efforts of the security personnel in Hazm Al-Jawf District for their interaction and great interest in following up on one of the antiquities smugglers and arresting him in possession of these archaeological stone pieces, which reflects the level of awareness reached by the security services in the province and their great role in preserving the country’s antiquities and history from weak souls who smuggle history and civilization country abroad.
Al-Hayal also noted the role of the Ministry of Interior in Sana'a, represented by the Command and Control Department, which continued to follow the Commission's delegation until it arrived in the capital with the seized archaeological stones.
