BRUSSELS May 28. 2024 (Saba) - Spain, Norway, and Ireland have jointly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and intensified humanitarian efforts, the Foreign Ministers of these nations advocated for swift action to allow humanitarian aid into the region.

During a press conference in Brussels, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez, alongside his counterparts from Ireland and Norway, announced their intention to officially recognize the State of Palestine on Tuesday.

Albarez emphasized the binding nature of International Court of Justice decisions, urging Israel to halt its operations in Rafah.

He stressed the importance of upholding international law and rallied support from other European ministers for the court's mandates.

Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for concrete steps towards Palestinian self-determination and the two-state solution.

He condemned the recent attack on a refugee camp in Rafah, calling it a violation of international law.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide underscored the recognition of the Palestinian state as a step towards peace in the Middle East.

He called for an immediate ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, and a renewed focus on establishing a Palestinian state to end the violence in Gaza and the West Bank.

Eide condemned the recent massacre in Rafah and urged Israel to cease its military operations.

In ongoing efforts, Eide highlighted recent meetings with Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa and the Saudi Foreign Minister to develop a peace plan that addresses Palestinian demands and rights.

He expressed confidence in Prime Minister Mustafa's ability to address outstanding issues and implement necessary reforms.

Eide also voiced support for the idea of a conference to implement the two-state solution, reflecting the broader international push for lasting peace in the region.
