GENEVA June 15. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) says the war has robbed the children of Gaza of their childhood.
The agency's commissioner-general, Philippe Lazzarini, said in a post on his X account on Thursday that "children in the Gaza Strip have gone through what no child in the world should see or endure. Many were killed, many were injured, and many will remain mutilated for life."
"Those who survived are deeply traumatized. Their schools were destroyed and they lost a whole school year, without education or play," he said, noting that "without a ceasefire we will have a lost generation."
The Israeli occupation forces have continued their aggression on the Gaza Strip, by land, sea and air, since the seventh of October 2023, resulting in the death of more than 37,232 citizens, the majority of whom were children and women, and the injury of 85,037 others, in an indefinite toll, as thousands of victims are still under the rubble.
