SANA'A July 31. 2024 (Saba) - The concerned authorities in Sana'a Governorate are making great efforts in many areas across the directorates, main roads and population centers to reduce the effects of floods resulting from rainfall during this season.

The Executive Unit for Projects in the governorate has implemented, starting last week, emergency work to drain rainwater and remove waste and dust stuck in the side nets in a number of streets in the governorate center.

The Executive Unit, the Emergency Unit, Public Works and Roads, and the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund are now on alert and ready for any emergency as a result of the rain floods in all the governorate's directorates.

The Acting Executive Unit Officer, Engineer Sami Al-Turabi, explained that this year's emergency work was launched on Al-Khamasin Street from Bait Bous Bridge to Dar Salam Bridge, noting that the work will continue until the end of the rainy season.

He explained that the unit is keen to implement current and future projects according to realistic studies in which a number of relevant authorities participate in each of the works, roads, geological survey, civil defense and traffic.

Al-Turabi stressed the importance of community cooperation and participation in efforts to remove flood waste and rainwater and help those affected by it.

The field work teams of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund continue to remove waste and dust and open a number of rainwater drains in a number of streets.

The Executive Director of the Fund, Fahd Attia, explained that the work aims to clean a number of flood drainage channels and remove slums and waste that cause blockages in various streets and urban neighborhoods during rainfall.

He stated that work is ongoing to remove waste from flood channels from the torrent extending from Safiya Tamish, Harat Al-Masirah to Khawlan Street, and to clean and scrape the dirt from a number of tunnels and entrances to the torrent in Beit Bous extending from the Martyrs' Roundabout to Al-Khamsin Street.

He explained that the field teams will work during this period to remove dirt and clean the streets, median islands and basins that were filled with waste resulting from the flow of torrents, calling on citizens not to throw waste in the torrent, channels and torrents and streets, due to the health and environmental risks this poses.

In turn, the Director of Emergency in the Governorate, Engineer Anis Al-Shami, confirmed the continuation of emergency work to avoid damage from rain floods, facilitate traffic, relieve congestion resulting from stagnant water, and protect public and private property.

The field work teams of the Public Works, Executive Unit, Emergency Unit, and Cleanliness and Improvement Fund in the governorate continue to remove waste and dust and open a number of rain drains in a number of the governorate’s streets, until the end of the rainy season.
